Hi! My name's Belen & I also go by Bel. Belen is the Spanish word for "Bethlehem" and has an accent as it's technically spelled Beleń. I'm a Southern Californian native and I grew up in sunny Orange County. In my free time I like to run outside and practice pointed pen calligraphy.
I've been fascinated with data and economics ever since I majored in business economics at UC Irvine. There I completed an honors thesis and was introduced to data analysis using Stata 9.2. After graduating, I worked as an economics research assistant before attending Duke for my master's degree in economics. Since then, I've worked in public policy, litigation consulting, venture capital, energy, and retail/e-commerce. I also taught at San Diego State University Spring 2016.
